When you’re in the market to purchase electric guitar strings, it can easily be overwhelming when having to choose the right kind. IN fact, sometime there seem to be too many choices. I have found myself numerous times walking into a music store to purchase electric guitar strings and have no ideas which ones to buy. I see a wall filled with all different types of guitar strings and I don’t even know where to start. Well to begin, you must first understand  the different components of the electric guitar string.

Guage of Electric guitar strings

The first most important aspect of the electric guitar string is the gauge. Each set of electric guitar strings has a corresponding gauge to it that differs from the other strings. The. Gauge is the term that is used to refer to the actual diameter of the string winding and winding to the way the string’s surface is finished. All of these play a very important role and can greatly affect the tone and playability of electric guitar. Just like a great guitar amp or bass speaker cabinet, the right one can defiantly have a positive effect on your playing. If you know what gauge works for you, then stick to it and go with what works best. But if you do not know what gauge is the right one for you, do some research and try a few out until you get your bearings. I have played on many different types of gauges but I have finally found, in my opinion, the best electric guitar strings on the market. But you need to find your own.

Different styles of Electric Guitar strings

Aside from the gauge of the string, there are also many different styles and forms that the strings come in. Some of these different types of electric guitar strings are:
1.) Pure nickel electric guitar strings
2.) Stainless steel electric guitar strings
3.) Nickel- plated electric guitar strings

Pure nickel electric guitar string

The pure nickel electric guitar string is a very popular choice among many well-respected guitarist. These guitar strings are most commonly worked and used on acoustic guitars. They generally produce a very bright, round sound. Beside the fact that they are bright with a round sound, they do commonly tend to be less vibrant than stainless steel. These electric guitar strings are most commonly used with Jazz musicians. Not only just Jazz musicians, but rhythm guitarists also would rather use these strings, which are softer and more flexible than stainless steel.

Stainless steel electric guitar strings

Stainless steel electric guitar strings are also a very popular choice among musicians/guitarist. The reason for their wide popularity is for their brilliant tone, great volume and sustain. Because stainless steel electric guitar strings are anti-corrosive and highly magnetic, they will always provide exceptional properties for the electric guitar and bass guitars. Even though stainless steel guitar strings do in fact last much longer than nickel-plated stings, they do have their disadvantages as well. Some of these setbacks are that they commonly produce finger noise from the rough, round-wound surface. This can also lead to the reason that many guitarists refer to stainless steel electric guitar strings “slower strings.” These can also be quite difficult when trying to pick up or learn how to string an electric guitar. However many musicians feel that stainless steel electric guitar strings are the best electric guitar strings out there. D Addario Electric guitar strings make a great stainless steel string and have had very high praise among guitarists.

Nickel- plated electric guitar strings

The third type of electric guitar strings is the Nickel- plated electric guitar strings. When talking about the nickel-Plated electric guitar strings, we are basically talking about the exact same and the stainless steel strings. However on the Nickel- plated electric guitar strings, they have with a nickel-plated surface. Because of this added surface, it provides a softer, smoother surface that’s faster and easier on the fingers. The nickel surface generally eliminates finger noise and improves playability.
