Be the next Jimi Hendrix!

There are many famous musicians out that have privileged the world with their skills. Curt Kobain, Eric Gales and Jimi Hendrix are three of them. Unlike Hendrix and Gales, the majority of all left handed electric guitarist's cannot just turn a right handed guitar upside down and start jamming. It is probably best (for most players) to pay the extra money to buy a left handed electric guitar. However, if your like me, its much more rewarding to build it yourself and you can enjoy the experience of building an electric guitar for a left-handed player rather than purchasing one. I once built my own bass guitar cabinet and found it to be much more reward when I was done. Here are the 10 easy steps your need to build your own left handed electric guitar.

Left Handed Electric Guitar

STEP 1: Go out to the store

STEP 1: Go out to the store, or online, and purchase all the parts and tools that you need for the project. Judging from the design of the guitar you are making, there may be some extra requirements you need prior constructing the guitar.

STEP 2: Contour the guitar body

STEP 2: Using a spoke shave, carefully contour the guitar body. Judging from the guilt design, mark the guitar body where the parts will be placed as well as where the bridge and control knobs will be interred. I would also recommend using a guitar body template.

STEP 3: Cut into the guitar body for pickups

STEP 3: Using your tools, carefully cut into the guitar body for the areas you had previously annotated for the pickups. When this is finished you can remove the wood. Then route the cavities of the guitar using a 1/4-inch straight cut double fluted router bit.

STEP 4: Route the body for the hardware wires and pickup

STEP 4: Now you can route the body of the guitar for the hardware wires and pickup. The actual depth of routing will be primarily based on the guitar design template being used. Route each fret slot so its 0.6mm wide and 3 mm deep

STEP 5

STEP 5: Very carefully, you now shoal drill the holes for the control knobs, stick, and bridge. For the contra knobs, you should have a 1-inch circle for the switch and two 1 1/4-inch circles.

STEP 6

STEP 6: Now its time to pick your favorite color and paint the body of the left hand electric guitar. Once the pain it dry, you then should sand it down until it’s all smooth throughout. If you need to you can repine until you’ve reached the desired look.

STEP 7

STEP 7: If desired, you can add a sealer clear coat if needed.

STEP 8

STEP 8: Now for the electronics. At this step you will carefully install the wiring for the guitar hardware. When you have completed this, you can install the guitar neck to the body. One important piece of information to keep in mind is that a standard neck pocket depth is 5/8" (16mm). IF you are gluing the neck to the body, I wolfed recommend using Titebond II glue.

STEP 9

STEP 9: Now you can sting the left handed guitar up using your stings of choice.  Keep in mind that strings a left handed guitar is the same as a regular guitar but in reverse.

STEP 10

STEP 10: Once you have the guitar all stringed up, let the string tension settle (usually around 6 to 8 hours) and jam on the guitar to test it. If something sounds off, go through the steps again and see where your error is. But if you followed everything correctly, you should be all set to jam and becoming the next Jimi Hendrix or Curt Kobain
